Health Food Trends – NYC Summer Fancy Food Show 2014 July 15, 2014 healthy products, nutrition, NYC, product innovation, USA Health Food Trends – NYC Summer Fancy Food Show 2014 Hi everyone, Earlier this month I attended an amazing food expo here in NYC called the Summer Fancy Food Show; Although not specifically promoted as a health food expo, I thought it was worth scoping out to see what new products are being brought to life, and which nutritional trends seem to be shifting to the forefront, or continuing to ride the wave of popularity. As a dietitian who loves innovation and seeing new products come to life, it was very heart warming to see so many companies focusing on health..and by that, I mean genuinely focusing on health in their product development, rather than just in their marketing strategies. Snacking continued to be a pivotal focus, with some of the stand out nutritionally focused products being in this category. There were quite a few products that fitted into the following groups that I thought you might enjoy seeing. 1. Popcorn 2. Lentil and legume based chips or snacks 3. Kale and other vegetable chips Delicious kale chips from a great company – rhythm super foods Great range of real vegetable chips from Danielle 4. Coconut based spreads, chips, and waters These tasted phenomenal! Nikkis coconut butter varieties Interesting flavours and texture for these coconut butters from Nikkis Coconut Butter This brand is expanding into Australia too! 5. Naturally sweetened beverages Cool bear naturally sweetened flavoured waters for kids 6. Matcha tea products Sparkling matcha tea product. 7. Kefir and probiotic rich foods Russian kefir – tastes amazing and is rich in probiotics that you don’t usually find in Greek yoghurt! 8. Refined sugar-free, high protein, or high fibre granola based products high protein and fibre granola – san franola high protein and fibre granola – san franola 9. Small whole food meal sachets without additives Happy to see an Aussie company Celebrate Health here on the day! There were also quite a few nutrient enhanced waters, as well as natural lines of corn chips in sight; I quite liked the uniqueness of a company that focused on ginger and the nutritional benefits associated with its consumption! Jin + ja One of my favourite finds though from the whole show was definitely the incredible new company called Mediterra.. I see them doing BIG things around the world with their unique focus on the Mediterranean diet. Their line of savoury and sweet bars were so tasty and original – I think they are worth keeping an eye on around the globe! Mediterra – great new company! As most of you know, I could probably go on for days about all the products I found, but I thought this would be a nice snippet to get you exposed to what is on the horizon for the health food space across the globe.
