I find it very interesting reading the different reviews on going gluten free for weight loss throughout Australia and the USA, and continuing to expand my knowledge in this area; In particular, in relation to inflammatory effects or digestive upset that are becoming increasingly apparent among consumers.

For the time being, based on my knowledge, I stand by my philosophy that for many people, simply reducing your intake of refined gluten containing products, should you have an intolerance, can be ample to assist with reducing the associated issues, with out the need to necessarily remove gluten containing foods entirely.

This could mean going from having a wheat (which naturally is gluten containing) bread, cereal, pasta, cracker or other product at every meal, to only consuming wheat as part of one meal a day, and then opting for alternative carbohydrate sources such as starchy root vegetables, legumes, or specially formulated higher fiber gluten free options such as black bean spaghetti for your alternative meals.

These switches could result in weight loss, but it is not necessarily simply the removal of gluten that has brought this on, but rather the change in composition of the entire food you have replaced or switched to.

I found an article in an Australian health magazine just last week whilst I was in town which I found quite interesting; I sometimes think that the agitation people feel in their digestive system isn’t solely a result of an intolerance to a particular grain (which of course can be the case for some people), but rather how it has been modified through the processing phases. This part of the article summed up these thoughts quite nicely:

Additives in the wheat used in bread in the USA has sometimes been found to cause digestive troubles.
